Description
Furazolidone Arena 25 mg, 10 tablets, Arena Group
Indications:
Enteritis, infectious enterocolitis and food poisoning caused by germs sensitive to furazolidone, bacillary dysentery, giardiasis.
It may be indicated in trichomoniasis, as well as in the treatment of cholera.
Composition:
One tablet contains furazolidone 25 mg and excipients: microcrystalline cellulose, polividone K 30, croscarmellose sodium, talc, magnesium stearate.
Method of administration:
Dosage and administration
Adults:
For the treatment of cholera or other enteric infections: the recommended dose is 100 mg of furazolidone, administered orally, 4 times a day, at 6-hour intervals, for 5-7 days.
In the treatment of giardiasis, the recommended dose is 100 mg of furazolidone, administered orally, 4 times a day, at 6-hour intervals, for 7-10 days.
Children:
For the treatment of cholera or other enteric infections: the recommended dose is 1.25 mg furazolidone/kg, administered orally, 4 times a day, at 6-hour intervals, for 5-7 days.
In case of Giardia lamblia infestation, the duration of treatment may be extended up to 10 days.
It is recommended to crush and dilute the tablets with a little liquid to obtain a suspension, as the tablets are not suitable for administration to children under 6 years of age.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to furazolidone, other nitrofurans or to any of the excipients.
Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency.
The last trimester of pregnancy.
In women breastfeeding infants less than 1 month old
Infants less than 1 month old (risk of hemolytic anemia)
Severe renal failure.
Precautions:
During treatment and for 4 days after stopping it, it is not recommended to consume alcoholic beverages (risk of disulfiram-type reactions) and foods containing thiamine (risk of hypertension and other toxic phenomena).
Pregnancy, lactation and fertility:
Studies conducted in laboratory animals with doses much higher than those recommended for humans, administered for a long time, have not revealed fetotoxic effects. Since there are no controlled studies in pregnant women, the administration of furazolidone is not recommended during pregnancy. Administration in the last trimester of pregnancy is contraindicated due to the risk of hemolytic anemia in the fetus.
It is not known whether furazolidone is excreted in human milk. Therefore, in nursing women, either discontinuation of treatment or discontinuation of breastfeeding should be considered. Administration to women breastfeeding infants less than 1 month of age is contraindicated due to the risk of hemolytic anemia in the infant.
Driving and using machines:
Furazolidone does not affect the ability to drive or use machines.
