Ogestan
Description Ogestan
The information in the FAQ section was created by the Liki24.nl team and is based on the official manufacturer's manual
Ogestan is a dietary supplement specifically designed for women wishing to become pregnant, those who are pregnant, or breastfeeding mothers, with the aim of supporting maternal nutritional balance and optimal foetal development.
Its formula contains essential micronutrients – Omega-3 fatty acids, particularly docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), folate, vitamin D3, vitamin E and iodine – which, through well-documented physiological mechanisms, contribute to cell division processes, the development of the foetal nervous system, the maintenance of thyroid function and protection against oxidative stress.
Dosage forms
Ogestan is available in soft capsules, packaged in boxes of 30 units, intended for daily oral administration. The soft capsule makes it easier to swallow and protects sensitive ingredients, such as polyunsaturated fatty acids, from premature oxidation.
Ogestan is also available in sachets, each containing inositol, chromium, green tea extract and folic acid.
Indications for use
Ogestan is indicated for:
- the pre-conception period, to optimise the mother’s reserves of folate and DHA;
- during pregnancy, to support normal foetal brain development and maternal tissue growth;
- breastfeeding, to ensure an adequate supply of DHA necessary for the newborn’s neurological development;
- situations where dietary intake of oily fish or iodine is insufficient.
Taking Ogestan during pregnancy or breastfeeding contributes to the normal brain development of the foetus and breastfed infants, with beneficial effects achieved through a daily supplement of 200 mg of DHA in addition to the usual recommended dose for adults (250 mg of DHA + EPA).
Dosage regimen
The recommended daily dose is one capsule per day, to be taken before the main meal with a glass of water.
It is recommended to start treatment with Ogestan before pregnancy and to continue it throughout pregnancy and breastfeeding, in order to maintain optimal nutritional status.
Contraindications
Ogestan is not recommended for women with thyroid disorders, particularly hyperthyroidism or other conditions where additional iodine intake could worsen the clinical picture.
The product contains soya and fish-derived ingredients and is contraindicated for people allergic to these components. Caution and medical advice are recommended in cases of coagulation disorders.
Special instructions for use
As a food supplement, Ogestan should not replace a varied and balanced diet, but rather supplement nutritional intake in specific situations.
Taking it during the pre-conception period is essential, as the closure of the foetal neural tube occurs in the first weeks of pregnancy, often before pregnancy is confirmed.
Side effects
Taking Ogestan during pregnancy or before pregnancy is generally well tolerated. Minor digestive reactions, such as mild nausea, abdominal discomfort or reflux with a distinct fishy taste, may rarely occur.
Allergic reactions are possible in people with hypersensitivity to soya, fish or any of the excipients. In the event of skin rashes, itching or other symptoms indicative of an allergy, use should be discontinued and a doctor consulted.
Interactions with other medicines and food
No significant drug interactions are known, but caution is advised when taken concomitantly with other supplements containing folic acid or iodine, or with anticoagulant medicines.
Women undergoing treatment for thyroid disorders should consult their doctor before use. Taking this product alongside high-fat foods may promote optimal absorption of DHA.
Overdose
Accidental overdose is unlikely if the recommended dose is followed. However, taking excessive amounts of folate or iodine may cause metabolic imbalances or thyroid dysfunction.
In the event of accidental ingestion of a large number of capsules, it is recommended to consult a doctor to assess clinical and biochemical status.
Storage conditions
The product should be stored in its original packaging, at temperatures below 25 °C, protected from moisture and direct light.
Keep out of the reach and sight of children. Check the integrity of the capsules before use.
