Imodium is part of the group of antidiarrheal, anti-inflammatory/intestinal antiseptic drugs, being an antipropulsive.
In case of diarrhea, Imodium makes stools more consistent and less frequent. You can use
Imodium for a sudden (acute) episode of diarrhoea or long-term (chronic) diarrhoea. You may also be prescribed Imodium if you have had part of your bowel removed, as this can cause frequent diarrhoea. If you do not feel better after 2 days or if you feel worse, you should see a doctor.

Do not use Imodium:
- if you have hypersensitivity to loperamide hydrochloride or any of the excipients of the medicine.

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using Imodium.

Pregnancy, lactation and fertility:
Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any medicine.
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
It is not recommended to use Imodium if you are breastfeeding, as small amounts of Imodium may pass into your breast milk.

Driving and using machines:
Imodium has no influence on the ability to drive or use machines.
However, fatigue, dizziness, or drowsiness may accompany diarrhea, so it is advisable to be cautious when driving or using machinery.

Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you.
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

The dose of Imodium you should use will depend on your age and the type of diarrhoea.
Imodium is available in the form of capsules that are swallowed.
You can use Imodium at any time of the day.
The capsules should be swallowed with a sufficient amount of liquid.

Use in adults (including the elderly), children and adolescents aged 6 to 17 years
- for a sudden (acute) episode, take 2 Imodium capsules (4 mg loperamide hydrochloride) at a time, then 1 Imodium capsule (2 mg loperamide hydrochloride) after each bowel movement. If you have a hard or solid stool or if you go 24 hours without a bowel movement, stop taking the medicine.
- for long-term (chronic) diarrhoea, the exact dose will be determined together with your doctor, but do not take more than 8 Imodium capsules (16 mg loperamide hydrochloride) in 24 hours.

Use in children and adolescents aged 6 to 17 years:
- for a sudden (acute) episode, give 1 Imodium capsule (2 mg loperamide hydrochloride) once, then continue with 1 Imodium capsule (2 mg loperamide hydrochloride) after each bowel movement. If the child has a hard or solid stool or if 24 hours have passed without a bowel movement, discontinue treatment.
- for long-term (chronic) diarrhea, the exact dose will be established with your doctor, but never administer more than the recommended dose per day and per kilogram of your child's body weight (3 capsules/20 kg which should not exceed a maximum of 8 capsules per day).

If stools return to normal or if a stool has not been passed for 12 hours, stop taking Imodium.

Use in children and adolescents:
There are limited data on use in children under 12 years of age.
In children aged 2 to 6 years, other pharmaceutical forms suitable for children are used.
Imodium is not for use in children under 2 years of age.

The active substance is loperamide hydrochloride. One capsule contains 2 mg of loperamide hydrochloride.
The other ingredients are: Capsule content: lactose monohydrate, maize starch, talc and magnesium stearate. Cap: yellow iron oxide (E 172), indigo carmine (E 132), titanium dioxide (E 171) and gelatin; Body: black iron oxide (E 172), indigo carmine (E 132), erythrosine (E 127), titanium dioxide (E 171) and gelatin.
