It is recognized for its uplifting, restorative and balancing action. Bergamot essential oil is useful for colds, flu and PMS, as well as digestive ailments. It is a popular oil in the perfumery industry, with Bergamot being the key ingredient in traditional eau de parfum that was made in Italy in the 16th century. Bergamot Essential Oil typically contains a natural chemical called bergapten, a phototoxic agent that produces abnormally dark pigmentation and reddening of the skin after exposure to UV rays. Bergapten has been removed from this Bergamot Essential Oil and thus it is safe to use on the skin diluted in a base oil. Before use, it is recommended that they are always diluted in a base (e.g. water, carrier oils). Do not administer internally without the advice of a doctor or specialist. Store in a dry and cool place, away from sunlight. Keep out of the reach of children. Bath: Add 5 - 10 drops of essential oil to a bath of warm water. If your skin is sensitive, first mix the essential oil into a teaspoon of carrier oil. Close the door so that the steam does not escape. Keep your body in the water for at least 10 minutes and relax by taking deep breaths. For extra hydration, dilute the oils in 10 ml of carrier oil before adding the essential oil to the warm bath. Massage: Add 5 - 6 drops of essential oil to 10 ml of carrier oil. Mix well and apply liberally to the skin by gently massaging. Inhalations: Add 4 - 5 drops of essential oil to a bowl of hot water. Place a towel over your head, close your eyes and lean over the bowl. Inhale the vapors for a few minutes. Burners and diffusers: Fill the burner / vaporizer bowl with water and then add 3 - 6 drops of essential oil. For burners, light the candle and the oil will evaporate as the water heats up.
