Prospan syrup 7 mg/ml, 100 ml, Engelhard Arznemittel

Indications:
Prospan syrup is a herbal medicine that contains dried ivy leaf extract (Hederae folium) as the active substance. Prospan syrup belongs to a group of medicines called other antitussives and expectorants.
It is used for the treatment of (productive) cough in long-term (chronic) inflammatory diseases of the bronchi and for acute inflammation of the airways accompanied by cough.

Composition:
The active substance is dry extract of ivy leaves (Hederae folium). 100 ml of syrup contains 0.7 g dry extract of ivy leaves (Hederae folium) (5 -7.5):1.
Extraction agent: ethyl alcohol (ethanol) 30% (m/m).

Method of administration:
Always use Prospan syrup exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

Adults and children over 10 years of age - the recommended dose is 5 ml of syrup 3 times a day (corresponding to 105 mg of dry extract of Hederae folium - ivy leaf). If necessary, the dose for adults can be increased to 7.5 ml of syrup 3 times a day (corresponding to 157.5 mg of dry extract of Hederae folium - ivy leaf).
Children between 6 and 9 years old - the recommended dose is 5 ml of syrup 3 times a day (corresponding to 105 mg of dry extract of Hederae folium - ivy leaf).
Children between 1 and 5 years old - the recommended dose is 2.5 ml of syrup 3 times a day (corresponding to 52.5 mg of dry extract of Hederae folium - ivy leaf).

Prospan syrup is administered in the morning, at noon and in the evening. The syrup is administered with the measuring cup attached to the bottle. It is recommended to shake the bottle vigorously before use.

Contraindications:
Do not use Prospan syrup:
- if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to the active substance (dried ivy leaf extract (Hederae folium)) or to any of the other ingredients of this medicine.

Precautions:
Before using Prospan syrup, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.

Pregnancy, lactation and fertility:
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
Prospan syrup is not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding, as there is insufficient information available about the safety of administration in pregnant and breastfeeding women.

Driving and using machines:
This medicine has no effect on the ability to drive or use machines.
