Nasal spray solution Olynth 1 mg/ml, 10 ml, Johnson & Johnson
Olynth 1 mg/ml contains xylometazoline which helps reduce nasal congestion by reducing inflammation of the mucous membrane (nasal mucosa) to help you breathe easier.
The medicine is used for the short-term treatment of nasal congestion accompanied by nasal secretions, associated with colds or sinusitis.
Composition:
- Each spray of Olynth 1mg/ml (=0.140 ml) contains 140 µg (or 0.140 mg) of xylometazoline hydrochloride
- The other ingredients are: disodium edetate, sodium chloride, sodium dihydrogen phosphate dihydrate, disodium hydrogen phosphate dihydrate, sorbitol (E420), benzalkonium chloride and purified water.
How to use:
- Adults, adolescents and children over 12 years of age
- Unless your doctor or pharmacist tells you otherwise, use one puff of Olynth 1 mg/ml in each nostril up to 3 times a day for up to 7 days
- Do not exceed the recommended dose
- To reduce the risk of infection transmission, each bottle should be used by one person only and the nozzle should be rinsed after each use.
Contraindications:
Do not use Olynth 1 mg/ml if you or your child:
- you are allergic to xylometazoline or any of the other components of the medicine
- you have high pressure inside your eye, especially if you have angle-closure glaucoma
- you have chronic rhinitis (long-term nasal irritation) with little or no discharge (rhinitis sicca)
- you are being treated with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or if you have used MAOIs in the last 2 weeks
- you are being treated with other medicines that can increase your blood pressure
- you have inflammation caused by hypersensitivity of the blood vessels in your nose
- you have inflammation associated with thinning of the nasal membranes with or without secretions
- you have had brain surgery through the nose or mouth.
This medicine is NOT for use in children under 12 years of age.
If you are pregnant or think you are pregnant or are planning to become pregnant ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any medicine. Olynth 1 mg/ml should not be used during pregnancy as it is not known how it affects the unborn child. If you are breast-feeding, talk to your doctor before using this medicine. It is not known whether the active substance passes into breast milk.
The preservative (benzalkonium chloride) contained in Olynth 1 mg/ml may cause swelling of the nasal mucous membrane, especially during long-term use
If such a reaction is suspected (persistent nasal congestion), a preservative-free nasal product should be used where possible. If such preservative-free nasal products are not available, consideration should be given to the use of another dosage form.
