The consumption of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) by the mother contributes to the proper development of the brain and eyes of the fetus and breastfed infant. A beneficial effect occurs when consuming 200 mg of DHA per day in addition to the recommended daily intake of omega-3 fatty acids for adults, i.e. 250 mg of DHA and EPA.

Folates play an important role in advanced pregnancy, as they contribute to the growth of maternal tissues. Additionally, they also help in the proper synthesis of amino acids, while also playing a role in proper blood production.
