Espumisan, 240 mg, 20 soft capsules, Berlin-Chemie Ag

Indications:

Espumisan contains the active ingredient simethicone, a substance with an effect on the accumulation of gas in the gastrointestinal tract and a support in establishing the diagnosis.

The active substance, simethicone, disintegrates gas bubbles from digested food (from the bolus) and from the mucus of the gastrointestinal tract. The gases thus released pass through the intestinal wall and are eliminated through bowel movements.

Therapeutic indications:
In treatment without medical recommendation:
- For the symptomatic treatment of gastrointestinal disorders associated with the presence of gases, for example bloating (meteorism) or flatulence and a feeling of fullness
According to the doctor's recommendation:
- for preparing for medical examinations for diagnostic purposes in the abdomen, e.g. radiography, ultrasound

Espumisan is used for the treatment of adults and adolescents over 15 years of age.
Discomfort due to the presence of gas can also be a sign of functional disorders at the gastrointestinal level and manifests itself in the form of a feeling of pressure and overflow, a feeling of early satiety, belching (burping), intestinal noises and bloating.

You should talk to a doctor if you don't feel better after three days or if you feel worse.

Contraindications:

Do not use Espumisan:
- if you are allergic to simethicone or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.

Precautions:
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Espumisan.

Pregnancy, lactation and fertility:
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
No negative effects are anticipated if Espumisan is taken during pregnancy and breastfeeding because the active substance simethicone is not absorbed from the stomach and intestines into the blood. However, there are no clinical data on the use of Espumisan in pregnant women.

Driving and using machines:
No special precautions are necessary.

Method of administration:

Always take this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

Dosage:
The recommended dose for adults and adolescents over 15 years of age is:
In the treatment without medical recommendation in case of gastrointestinal discomfort associated with the presence of gases, for example bloating (meteorism) or flatulence and a feeling of overflow:
Take one Espumisan capsule after each main meal (lunch and dinner). You should not exceed the maximum daily dose of 3 capsules.

As recommended by your doctor, to prepare for diagnostic medical examinations of the abdomen, e.g. X-ray, ultrasound:
One capsule of Espumisan the day before the examination.

Patients with hepatic or renal impairment:
No dose adjustment is necessary.

Elderly:
There is no specific information available comparing the use of simethicone in the elderly with use in other age groups.

Use in children:
Espumisan is not recommended for infants and young children, and for children under 15 years of age.

Method of administration:
Espumisan should be taken after main meals, with a glass of water.

Take Espumisan as long as you have symptoms of abdominal discomfort. Espumisan can also be taken for up to 30 days if necessary. See also section 2 "Warnings and precautions".
