Aspenter 75 mg, 28 gastro-resistant tablets, Terapia
Aspenter 75 mg works by preventing the formation of blood clots and is used for:
- reducing the risk of myocardial infarction in patients with angina pectoris or with multiple risk factors
- prevention of recurrence of myocardial infarction - prevention of stroke (transient ischemic and cerebral infarction)
- maintaining blood circulation in the blood vessels of the heart after certain surgical operations for the purpose of dilating the coronary arteries (vasculoplasty and coronary artery bypass grafting).
Aspenter 75 mg should not be used to treat fever or pain (regardless of their type), as it releases a small amount of acetylsalicylic acid.
Composition:
- The active substance is acetylsalicylic acid. One gastro-resistant tablet contains 75 mg of acetylsalicylic acid
- The other components are: core - microcrystalline cellulose (type PH 112), pregelatinized starch, stearic acid, anhydrous colloidal silicon dioxide; film, talc, copolymer of methacrylic acid with ethyl acrylate, dispersion 30%, triethylcitrate, simethicone, emulsion 30%.
Mode of administration:
- Always take this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you
- Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure
- The usual dose for long-term use is 75-150 mg once a day
- In certain circumstances, a higher dose may be appropriate, which can be used on the doctor's recommendation, especially in the short term, and up to 300 mg per day.
- The gastro-resistant tablets should be swallowed whole, with sufficient liquid, preferably after a meal
- Tablets should not be split, crushed or chewed.
Contraindications:
Do not use Aspenter 75 mg
- if you are allergic to acetylsalicylic acid, other salicylates or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6)
- if you have had asthma related to the use of salicylates or related substances, especially NSAIDs
- if you have a tendency to bleed
- if you have a low number of platelets in your blood
- if you have haemophilia (blood clotting disorders)
- if you have a stomach or small bowel ulcer
- if you use Aspenter 75 mg concomitantly with methotrexate in doses ≥15 mg/week
- if you are in the last trimester of pregnancy.
Precautions:
Before using Aspenter 75 mg, talk to your doctor or pharmacist
- if you have or have had allergies (bronchial asthma, allergic rhinitis, nasal polyps or allergic reactions to other medicines; in this case take Aspenter 75 mg only under the supervision of your doctor)
- if you have had an ulcer in your stomach or small intestine
- if you have certain conditions that increase the risk of bleeding
- if you have had kidney disease
- if you have severe liver problems
- if you have heart problems not controlled by treatment
- if you think you may be dehydrated (you may feel thirsty with a dry mouth)
- if you have high blood pressure
- if you have a deficiency (from birth) of glucose-6-phosphate-dehydrogenase (an enzyme).
Before any surgery, tell your doctor (or dentist) that you are taking Aspenter 75 mg.
Interactions:
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines.
Special warnings:
- When acetylsalicylic acid is given to children, it can cause Reye's syndrome
- Reye's syndrome is a very rare disease that can be fatal
- For this reason, acetylsalicylic acid should not be given to children under the age of 16, unless recommended by a doctor.
Pregnancy and breast-feeding:
- If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine
- Pregnant women should not use acetylsalicylic acid during pregnancy, unless recommended by a doctor
- Therapy in recommended doses or high doses of acetylsalicylic acid during the last trimester of pregnancy can cause serious complications for the mother or child
- Do not take Aspenter 75 mg if you are breast-feeding because small amounts of acetylsalicylic acid pass into breast milk and could harm the baby.
Adverse reactions:
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Rare side effects (may affect up to 1 in 1,000 people):
- prolongation of bleeding time
- thrombocytopenia (the presence of a relatively low number of platelets in the blood)
- bleeding, and you should tell your doctor if you have any unusual bleeding
- shortness of breath
- hypersensitivity (skin rash or itching or wheezing or coughing or difficulty breathing)
- skin reactions, urticaria
- the use of high doses may cause vertigo and ringing in the ears
- triggering asthma attacks
- nausea
- vomiting
- pain or discomfort in the stomach or chest after eating
- occult gastrointestinal hemorrhages, which, in rare cases, can cause iron deficiency in the body
- use of high doses may cause gastrointestinal ulcers with severe bleeding (vomiting with bright red blood or "coffee grounds" appearance, black stools)
- long-term use of high doses can cause kidney damage, kidney stones (which can cause severe stomach or back pain).
Very rare side effects (may affect up to 1 in 10,000 people):
- long-term use of high doses can cause liver damage.
Overdose:
- If you accidentally take more tablets, contact your doctor immediately or go to the emergency room of your nearest hospital
- Take this leaflet or a few tablets with you so your doctor knows what you have taken.
Special features:
Before using acetylsalicylic acid inform your doctor about the medicines you are taking.
If you use acetylsalicylic acid regularly, ask your doctor for advice before taking any other medicine (including those obtained without a prescription).
The effect of the treatment can be influenced if acetylsalicylic acid is administered simultaneously with other drugs used for:
- preventing blood clots (eg warfarin)
- organ rejection after transplantation (cyclosporine, tacrolimus)
- high blood pressure (eg diuretics and ACE inhibitors)
- pain and inflammation (eg steroids or anti-inflammatory drugs)
- gout (probenecid)
- cancer or rheumatoid arthritis (methotrexate)
- stimulation of the immune system (interferon alfa)
- epilepsy (sodium valproate or phenytoin)
- diabetes mellitus (sulfonamides)
- infections (tetracyclines)
- glaucoma (acetazolamide)
- anger or bipolar disorder (lithium)
- indigestion (antacids).
