Description
Vicks VapoRub ointment is a medicine used to relieve the symptoms of irritation and inflammation of the mucous membrane of the nose and throat, most often in colds. The preparation is intended for rubbing on the chest and back and for inhalation by evaporation of the volatile ingredients. The preparation can be used by both adults and children over 5 years of age.
The active ingredients in Vicks VapoRub are camphor, eucalyptus oil, levomenthol, and turpentine oil. These ingredients evaporate and soothe upper respiratory symptoms such as a runny nose. In addition, levomenthol and camphor have a mild anesthetic effect, which in turn relieves coughing and swelling of the mucous membranes of the nasal turbinates, while eucalyptus oil and turpentine oil stimulate expectoration, stimulating the secretion of mucus in the upper respiratory tract.
