The active ingredient xylometazoline hydrochloride stimulates alpha-adrenergic receptors on the surface of smooth muscle cells in the vascular wall. As a result, the vessels at the site of application constrict, reducing swelling of the nasal mucosa and facilitating breathing. The onset of action usually occurs within 5–10 minutes. The excipient hyaluronic acid ( HA) (in the form of sodium salt) prevents the nasal mucosa from drying out by retaining water when administered to the nasal passages.

Most allergic and chronic diseases of the upper respiratory tract are often associated with crusting and drying of the nasal mucosa. For this reason, excipients with a moisturizing effect can be added to nasal sprays. Moisturizing ingredients prevent irritation of the nasal mucosa, but at the same time do not affect the absorption of the drug. Olynth® HA spray contains hyaluronic acid in the form of sodium salt.

Preservatives contained in nasal sprays are intended to protect the medicine from contamination by microorganisms after opening, either by killing them or by preventing their growth. Some preservatives, e.g. BZC (benzalkonium chloride) used in nasal sprays, may have a negative effect on the nasal mucosa: 1. They may irritate the nasal mucosa 2. They may lead to damage to the nasal mucosa 3. They may intensify the symptoms of allergic rhinitis

Dosage and method of administration

Treatment of adults and children from 6 years of age. The medicine is applied as needed, but no more than 3 times a day, 1 dose in each nostril.

Warning

OLYNTH® HA 0.1% should not be used for more than 7 days unless otherwise directed by a doctor. The application of the medicine can be repeated only after a few days of interruption of treatment.
