Bilobil Intens 120 mg, 60 capsules, Krka
Read all of this leaflet carefully before you start using this medicine because it contains important information for you.
Always use this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you.
Indications:
Bilobil is recommended as a symptomatic treatment in the elderly for disorders of blood circulation and brain functions that occur with age, manifested as: memory disorders, decreased intellectual capacity, malaise and anxiety, dizziness, tinnitus, sleep disorders. It is also recommended in chronic circulatory disorders of the extremities (chronic obliterating arteriopathy of the lower limbs and Raynaud's syndrome) at the onset.
Bilobil contains standardized extract from Ginkgo biloba leaves. The active substances in this extract are flavonoid glycosides, ginkgolides and bilobalides. They dilate blood vessels, improve blood flow, prevent platelet aggregation and thus improve circulation and increase oxygen and glucose intake. By regulating metabolism, it protects cells and tissues from damage caused by lack of oxygen. Ginkgo biloba extract is effective in blood perfusion disorders in the brain and extremities. Bilobil improves metabolism and blood circulation in the brain, thus improving psycho-intellectual functions. In blood perfusion disorders in the extremities it relieves the feeling of cold, tingling, numbness and pain that occur when walking.
Composition:
One capsule contains: 40mg dry extract of Ginkgo biloba leaves (standardized to 9.6mg ginkgoflavonic glycosides and 2.4mg terpenes – ginkgolides and bilobalides) and excipients: lactose monohydrate, corn starch, talc, anhydrous colloidal silicon dioxide, magnesium stearate.
Method of administration:
The recommended dose is 1 capsule of Bilobil 3 times a day, after meals. Swallow the capsule with a little water.
The first signs of symptom improvement are usually expected to appear after one month. For a lasting effect, Bilobil should be administered for at least 3 months, especially in the elderly.
Precautions and contraindications:
Before taking Bilobil Intens, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
Before starting treatment with Bilobil Intens, it must be determined whether your symptoms are not a consequence of another disease that requires specific treatment.
If symptoms worsen during treatment with Bilobil Intens, you should contact your doctor or pharmacist.
If you have an increased tendency to bleed (hemorrhagic diathesis) or are being treated with medications that prevent blood clotting, you can take Bilobil Intens only on the recommendation of your doctor.
Due to the possible effect on blood clotting of medicines containing ginkgo, treatment with Bilobil Intens is not recommended before surgery or in patients at risk of cerebral hemorrhage.
Patients with a history of seizures or epilepsy should avoid medications containing ginkgo, as they may cause seizures.
Bilobil Intens is not recommended if you are taking efavirenz (a medicine for the treatment of HIV infection).
Children and adolescents:
This medicine is not recommended for use in children and adolescents under 18 years of age due to insufficient data on safety and efficacy. In addition, there are no indications for treatment in this age group.
Bilobil Intens with other medicines
Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines.
The use of Bilobil Intens is not recommended if you regularly take medicines that prevent blood clotting, such as coumarin anticoagulants, clopidogrel, acetylsalicylic acid or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. The effect of these medicines may be altered; therefore, you should consult your doctor before starting treatment.
If Bilobil Intens is taken together with nifedipine, a medicine used to treat heart conditions and high blood pressure, its effects may be increased. This may lead to dizziness or flushing. Talk to your doctor if this happens.
If Bilobil Intens capsules are used concomitantly with medicines for the treatment of epilepsy, the risk of seizures may be increased. The combination should be avoided. Bilobil Intens should not be taken together with efavirenz, a medicine for the treatment of HIV infection, as the effect of efavirenz may be reduced.
Pregnancy, lactation and fertility:
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
There are no known adverse effects of Ginkgo biloba extract on the fetus. An increased tendency to bleed may occur.
Due to insufficient data, Bilobil Intens is not recommended for pregnant women.
