Otodine

Otodine ICF is available in two presentations, designed to facilitate ear hygiene in dogs and cats and to allow for adaptation of use according to the animal’s individual needs.

ICF Otodine is indicated for cleaning the external ear canal and removing excess earwax in dogs and cats, helping to maintain a healthy ear environment and prevent the development of infections.

Otodine for dogs and cats is frequently used as an adjunct in the treatment of bacterial otitis, particularly in cases caused by Gram-negative bacteria such as Pseudomonas spp. and Proteus spp., as well as Gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus spp. and Streptococcus spp.

Otodine ear cleaner is intended for external use, to be applied directly into the animal’s external ear canal.

A few drops of the product are instilled into the ear canal, followed by a gentle massage at the base of the ear to facilitate even distribution of the solution within the ear canal.

Leave the solution to act for approximately 2–10 minutes, after which the ear is cleaned with cotton wool pads until secretions and earwax are completely removed.

Otodine dog ear cleaner must not be used in animals with known hypersensitivity to any of the product’s components, particularly chlorhexidine or the excipients in the formulation.

In the case of severe ear infections or suspected more complex ear conditions, the product should only be used following a clinical assessment by a vet.

Otodine should be used following consultation with a veterinarian to establish a correct diagnosis and appropriate treatment plan.

It is recommended that the product be applied with care to avoid trauma to the ear canal or excessive introduction of fluid into the ear. 

It is also important that the cleaning procedure is carried out in a quiet environment to reduce the animal’s stress.

In general, Otodine is well tolerated by dogs and cats when used as directed. In rare cases, local reactions such as irritation or discomfort may occur, manifested by excessive head shaking, itching of the ear or redness of the ear canal.

These reactions are usually temporary and disappear once the product is no longer used. If symptoms persist or worsen, it is recommended that you consult your vet.

Otodine can be used in combination with other veterinary treatments for otitis, including topical or systemic antibiotics, as its primary role is to cleanse and support antimicrobial therapy.

No significant interactions with food or other products commonly used in pets have been reported.

Overdose is unlikely with topical use of the product. However, excessive application or too frequent use may cause irritation of the ear canal or local discomfort.

In such cases, it is recommended to temporarily discontinue treatment and consult a vet.

Otodine should be stored in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and heat sources. The recommended storage temperature is below 25°C.

The product must be kept in its original packaging and out of the sight and reach of children. It must also not be used after the expiry date stated on the packaging.
