Why are coenzymes important?
B vitamins work in the body by being transformed naturally (through a process in the body) into coenzymes. Then, they further help enzymatic reactions (enzymes in the body start almost all important processes, and coenzymes help this process).
For example, vitamins B2 and B6 are converted into phosphorylated forms in the liver and continue to function as coenzymes. Instead, vitamin B12 is active in the body as methylcobalamin (the methylated form) and adenosylcobalamin (the phosphorylated form).
Therefore, supplementing with both forms of vitamins helps maximize their availability. And it is very suitable for people with reduced ability to absorb vitamins.
