Why is bamboo so great?
- Bamboo is an excellent renewable resource. It is the fastest growing plant on Earth.
- Due to the natural content of antimicrobial substances, it is not necessary to use fertilizers or pesticides during its cultivation.
What about the degradability of bamboo toothbrushes?
- Bamboo is a purely natural material and is completely compostable
- However, it is different with brushes. Although they contain a high proportion of plant components, they are not completely degradable and therefore not compostable
- Until about the 1930s, most toothbrushes used pig bristles, and this is the only option today to have a toothbrush made of 100% biodegradable material (if it has a wooden body).
- We considered using pig bristles as a natural material. However, I have consulted dentists about their use, who say they are not an ideal solution these days. Microbes are more likely to settle on pig bristles, which means they do not meet current hygiene requirements and are essentially ineffective. This is not a problem with nylon
- And because it is not an animal product, it is also compatible with a vegan approach to life
