PRECAUTIONS
- [RENAL INSUFFICIENCY]: In cases of renal insufficiency, sodium accumulation can occur, leading to hypernatremia and increased fluid retention. Due to its magnesium content, there is a risk of hypermagnesemia. - [HEART INSUFFICIENCY]: Sodium can cause hypernatremia, leading to alterations in the Na+-K+ ATPase pump and decreasing the effectiveness of cardiac contraction. In addition, water retention can lead to hypervolemia, which increases preload and further impairs heart function. [HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE]: The sodium content of this medication may increase fluid retention and blood pressure. [METABOLIC ALKALOSIS]: Sodium bicarbonate is a systemic antacid that is absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract; therefore, prolonged use may result in metabolic alkalosis. In sodium-restricted diets, it should be noted that each dose contains 606.5 mg of sodium.
ADVERSE REACTIONS
The adverse reactions to this medicine are mild and infrequent: - Digestive. Tartaric acid may cause diarrhea. - Electrolyte imbalances. Very rarely, after a chronic overdose or in patients with renal insufficiency, hypermagnesemia may occur. - Rarely (<1%): due to sodium absorption, risk of edema and hypertension; large doses may produce metabolic alkalosis (more frequent if there is renal insufficiency).
