Ricrolin+ ophthalmic solution, 1.5 ml, Fidia Farmaceutici

Properties:
- is a hypotonic ophthalmic solution containing riboflavin (0.1%), specially designed to allow the rapid passage of riboflavin into the corneal stroma, either through the healthy epithelium or after de-epithelialization or even by using a locally applied low-intensity electric field ( iontophoresis);
- this solution, used on the eyes, combined with an ultraviolet (UVA) emitter, is indicated for the para-surgical conservative treatment of keratoconus and corneal ectasia pathologies;
- the purpose of the Ricrolin+ solution is, including, to provide a protective barrier to the cornea to mitigate the penetration of UVA rays beyond the stroma, thus protecting the delicate internal structures of the eye (corneal endothelium, lens and retina) from the damage that radiation could cause ;
- the riboflavin solution can actually reduce the intensity of UV energy reaching the deep layers of the cornea by up to 95%;
- when Ricrolin+ is administered using iontophoresis, the transepithelial penetration of riboflavin, aided by the application of a low-intensity electric field, facilitates the corneal reticulation operation by shortening the absorption time and thus reducing discomfort for the patient.

Way of ussage:
For reticulation with de-epithelialization (standard CXL) (Epi-off): starting 15 minutes before UVA irradiation, instill one drop of Ricrolin+ on the cornea every 1-2 minutes (at least 10 drops within 15 minutes).
For transepithelial cross-linking (Epi-on): starting 30 minutes before UVA irradiation, instill one drop on the cornea every 2 minutes (at least 16 drops within 30 minutes). If you use a corneal ring, leave the cornea covered with Ricrolin+ for 20-25 minutes before irradiation.
For crosslinking with iontophoresis: the use of iontophoresis reduces the absorption time to five minutes.
In the absorption stage, instill Ricrolin+ into the specific electrode applied to the eye, until the sieve is completely covered. Then set the electric field generator and keep it running until the instrument signals the completion of the absorption stage. After completing the absorption stage, remove the electrode and continue the UVA irradiation according to the specific treatment protocol.

Ingredients:
Riboflavin sodium phosphate, sodium edetate, tromethamine, monobasic sodium phosphate dihydrate, dibasic sodium phosphate dihydrate, purified water.

Precautions:
The product is contraindicated in case of known hypersensitivity to its own components or to other chemically related substances. In the hours before instillation and until the start of instillation, the product must be kept in the refrigerator at a temperature between +4 and +8°C.
Do not use the product if an hour has passed since it was sucked from the bottle.
Each vial must be used for the same patient and for a single treatment.
Do not use if the packaging is damaged.
Do not use the product after the expiration date written on the packaging.
Do not store at temperatures above 25°C.
This product is intended for topical ophthalmic use only.
