What is Rhodiola rosea?

Rhodiola rosea (Rhodiola rosea) is a perennial plant found mainly in northern and central Asia, but also in the mountainous regions of Europe and the subarctic areas of North America. Here it is found naturally in the crevices of the limestone rocks in the Sudetenland and the Carpathians. The name Rhodiola rosea refers to the characteristic rose scent of the rhizome and the pink color that appears inside when cracked.

Rhodiola rosea extract is a source of many active substances that have a positive effect on the functioning of the body, the most important of which are cinnamic alcohol derivatives, collectively known as rosavins, and salidroside, a phenolic compound. In addition, Rhodiola rosea extract is also a treasure trove of other beneficial substances for the body: mono- and triterpenes, flavonoids, essential oils and polyphenols - such as gallic and chlorogenic acid.

How does Rhodiola rosea work?

Rhodiola rosea is classified as an adaptogen, a group of plant-based substances that increase resistance to stress and maintain body balance. Like other adaptogens, it increases the body's resistance to stressors, supporting the nervous and immune systems. In addition, it helps maintain the proper functioning of the circulatory system, thus providing the cells with the proper amount of oxygen and nutrients. The health-promoting effects of Rhodiola rosea have been observed thousands of years ago in China, where the plant is successfully used in traditional medicine. Traces of the use of this plant can also be found among the ancient Greeks and Romans and the Scandinavian Vikings.

What is the standardization and origin of the extract?

To ensure that the product has been produced from a high quality extract and from the correct botanical source, attention must be paid to both the standardization of the extract and the ratio of rosavin to salidroside content. A characteristic feature of the Rhodiola rosea species is the rosavin-salidroside ratio of 3:1. Products that have a different content ratio of these two substances, or those that are standardized for only one of the compounds, may contain poor quality extract obtained from other species of plants belonging to the genus Rhodiola, and not from Rhodiola rosea.

The extract contained in our product was produced in Russia from plants belonging exclusively to the species Rhodiola rosea, which grow in the clean and unpolluted region of the Altai Mountains. Therefore, it is characterized by an appropriate ratio of rosavins to salidroside of 3:1 and a high double standardization of 3% rosavins and 1% salidroside.
