Description
Pharmatex 18.9 mg, 10 ovules, Innotech
This medicine is a method of local contraception that reduces the risk of pregnancy, without making it disappear completely.
Its effectiveness depends on observing the way of use.
This method consists in the use of a chemical substance or spermicide, which destroys the spermatozoa.
This method of contraception is recommended, mainly, in case you forgot to take the contraceptive pill or you took it late; in this case, read again the leaflet of the oral contraceptive you are taking and associate the 2 methods of contraception for the duration of time left in the menstrual cycle.
Also, your doctor can prescribe this method of contraception, in the following particular situations: if you cannot use an oral contraceptive method or an IUD, if you have recently given birth, if you are breastfeeding or if you are in the pre-menopausal period, if you want to use a short-term method of contraception, in association with the method of contraception with an IUD (especially if some drugs are administered at the same time, such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), or with the diaphragm.
Composition:
- Active substance: benzalkonium chloride
- Excipients: dimethicone 1000, colloidal silicon dioxide, hydroxypropyl cellulose, macrogol 7-glyceryl cocoate, macrogol 400
- Capsule: gelatin, glycerin.
Contraindications:
- Pharmatex 18.9 mg is contraindicated in case of known hypersensitivity (allergy) to benzalkonium chloride or to any of the product's constituents
- Soaps can inactivate the active substance
- It is not usually indicated, except in cases where it has been recommended to you by your doctor, to be associated with other drugs administered vaginally (antifungal, antitrichomonas, antibacterial, antiseptic, antiherpetic, locally administered products containing estrogens) .In fact, they can result in the loss of its contraceptive effectiveness. In this case, wait until the end of the treatment to be able to use this spermicide and use the condom to ensure better protection
- Take special precautions when administering Pharmatex 18.9 mg: the effectiveness of this local contraceptive method is lower than that offered by other contraceptive methods, such as the oral one, the IUD, the diaphragm or the condom. Consequently, it is important to explain to the patient the exact way of use and to ensure her good understanding.
- To obtain the most effective contraceptive effect, it is important to respect the method of use. Use this spermicide systematically before every sexual intercourse, regardless of the period of the menstrual cycle you are in, after you understand how to use it.
- You should not wash the vagina with soap before or after intercourse, because soapy water, even in negligible amounts, destroys the active substance. It is only possible to perform an external toilet, only with water, for both partners. In the event of the appearance or worsening of a genital injury, stop the treatment and contact your doctor. If it is necessary to administer a treatment or any other product vaginally, wait for the end of the treatment to restart contraception with these capsules. This method of contraception does not protect against sexually transmitted diseases, nor against AIDS. Until now, only the simultaneous use of a condom allows true protection. Interactions with certain foods or drinks have not been demonstrated in the case of administration of this medicine.
Pregnancy:
The use of this spermicide during the beginning of an undiagnosed pregnancy does not involve exposure to any particular risk.
Breastfeeding:
- Breastfeeding is possible.
- Effects on the ability to drive vehicles or use machines:
- Pharmatex 18.9 mg does not influence the ability to drive vehicles or use machines.
Interactions with other medicinal products:
- The associated use of other drugs administered vaginally, or of soaps can cancel the effectiveness of this local contraceptive
- According to a compatibility study, the use of this spermicide does not change the physical and mechanical properties of condoms
- You must be careful to inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicine, even if you did not obtain it based on a prescription.
How to use:
One capsule is administered before each sexual intercourse, regardless of the period of the menstrual cycle in which you are. In the case of repeated reports, you must use a new capsule each time.
It is administered vaginally.
It is necessary to respect the following conditions:
- systematically place a capsule in the depth of the vagina before each sexual intercourse, regardless of the period of the menstrual cycle in which you are
- the introduction of the capsule is done in the supine position, which allows a better placement of it in the depth of the vagina
- wait for the complete dissolution of the capsule so that the entire amount of active substance is released (10 minutes)
- in the case of a second or more sexual intercourse, administer another capsule
- protection is provided for a period of 4 hours
- immediately after the report, only one external toilet of the region is allowed, only with water.
