Description
Injectable viscoelastic solution in the joint space OST ® is a medical device indicated for the treatment of pain and limited joint mobility caused by, among others, injuries and degenerative diseases. The pre-filled syringe OST ® 20 mg/2 ml contains 2 ml of 1% hyaluronic acid solution obtained by biofermentation, without animal proteins. The structure of hyaluronic acid mimics the one present in the human body.
How does the intra-articular injection work?
Synovial fluid is found in all synovial joints, especially those exposed to heavy loads. It has lubricating and shock-absorbing properties and is also responsible for nourishing the articular cartilage. Hyaluronic acid is responsible for its viscoelastic properties. In degenerative joint diseases, such as osteoarthritis, the viscoelastic properties of the fluid are significantly affected. As a result, the lubrication and shock-absorbing properties deteriorate. Then, the mechanical load on the joints increases and the articular cartilage is destroyed, which leads to pain and limited joint mobility.
The purpose of the injection is to increase the concentration of hyaluronic acid in the joint. Supplementing the synovial fluid with intra-articular injections of highly purified hyaluronic acid improves its viscoelastic properties. This, in turn, improves its lubricating and shock-absorbing properties and reduces the mechanical overload of the joint.
The OST ® package contains 1 pre-filled syringe of 20 mg/2.0 ml in a sterile package.
