What is macular pigment?

Macular pigment is a yellow pigment that we get from food. It is located in the macula (yellow spot), which is the center of the eye's clearest vision.

It consists of three substances: lutein, mesozeaxanthin and zeaxanthin . The macula filters the blue component of light, which is a natural part of solar and technical radiation (for example, computer screens), and also neutralizes free radicals that cause damage to eye cells.
