What makes the MacuShield composition unique?

MacuShield is a unique patented dietary supplement that contains all three carotenoids found in the macula, including meso-zeaxanthin.

Scientists have known for a long time that the yellow pigment inside the part of the macula, which is the center of the eye's clearest vision, consists of three types of carotenoids: lutein, zeaxanthin, meso-zeaxanthin. These natural components help protect the eye by absorbing the blue component of light, which is a natural part of sunlight and technical radiation (e.g. computer screens), and also neutralize free radicals that cause eye cell damage. Free radicals occur naturally, for example, in the metabolism of oxygen, but also due to the influence of a generally damaged environment, in a smoky environment, or due to an incorrect lifestyle. Because the macula is yellow, it is a natural filter for blue light entering the eye.

Why is meso-zeaxanthin so necessary?

Meso-Zeaxanthin is the dominant carotenoid in the central part of the macula, where its presence is essential for filtering the entire blue spectrum of light and at the same time acts as a highly effective antioxidant in the macula. Because it is extremely important for the normal functioning of a healthy macula, it is not found in the natural human diet (except in certain marine animals, such as some oysters or shrimp).

Under normal circumstances, the human body itself processes lutein into meso-zeaxanthin in the retina of the eye, but the body is not always able to produce a sufficient amount of this important carotenoid from lutein alone. Taking the food supplement MacuShield will ensure a sufficient intake of Meso-Zeaxanthin directly in the most important place - at the cells of the central part of the retina - the macula.

Lutein and Zeaxanthin These carotenoids are also antioxidants. They are found in leafy vegetables (spinach, cabbage) and are also able to filter the blue component of light entering the eye. According to new scientific studies, supplementation with all three yellow carotenoids – meso-zeaxanthin, zeaxanthin and lutein – appears to increase their amount in the eye and keep macular pigment levels stable.

Use of meso-zeaxanthin before and after cataract surgery Enrichment and protection of macular pigment takes on increased importance before and after cataract surgery. Despite the latest advanced methods, this (and any other eye surgery) carries an increased risk of damage or weakening of the macular pigment due to the trauma caused by the surgery itself.
