Description
Furazolidon 100 mg, 20 tablets, Terapia
It is used for the treatment of intestinal infections caused by some bacteria (enteritis, infectious enterocolitis and food poisoning caused by germs sensitive to furazolidone, bacillary dysentery, giardiasis) and cholera.
Composition:
- The active substance is furazolidone
- Each tablet contains furazolidone 100 mg
- The other components are lactose monohydrate, corn starch, povidone, magnesium stearate, talc.
Mode of administration:
- Always take Furazolidone Terapia exactly as your doctor has told you. You should talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure
- Furazolidone Terapia 100 mg is indicated only for the treatment of adults
- Unless your doctor has advised you otherwise, the usual doses are:
- Treatment of intestinal infections (enteritis, infectious enterocolitis, food poisoning, bacillary dysentery) or cholera: the recommended dose is one Furazolidon Terapia 100 mg tablet (100 mg furazolidone), administered 4 times a day, at 6-hour intervals, for 5-7 days
- Treatment of giardiasis: the recommended dose is one Furazolidon Terapia 100 mg tablet (100 mg furazolidone), administered 4 times a day, at 6-hour intervals, for 7-10 days.
Contraindications:
Do not take Furazolidone Terapia if
- you are allergic (hypersensitive) to furazolidone, to other nitrofurans or to any of the other components of Furazolidone Terapia
- you are deficient in glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (an enzyme)
- you have a condition called pheochromocytoma
- you are pregnant in the last trimester
- breastfeed the infant less than 1 month old
- you have severe kidney failure.
Take special care when using Furazolidone Terapia
- if you have liver or kidney failure
- if you are treated for giardiasis, symptoms may persist for several weeks or even months after treatment, due to intolerance to some categories of carbohydrates (lactose); in these cases, after stopping the treatment, you must perform 3 coproparasitological examinations at intervals of 3-4 weeks, in order to be able to evaluate the effectiveness of the treatment. If the infections are severe, it may be necessary to combine other therapies.
Furazolidone may turn your urine yellow-brown.
Precautions:
Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription.
Pregnancy, breast-feeding and fertility:
- Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any medicine
- No controlled studies with furazolidone in pregnant women are available. That is why it is not recommended to take Furazolidone Terapia during pregnancy
- If you are pregnant in the last trimester, do not use Furazolidone Terapia due to the risk of hemolytic anemia in the fetus
- It is not known whether furazolidone is excreted in breast milk. Therefore, it is recommended not to breast-feed if you use Furazolidone Terapia
- You should not breastfeed if the infant is less than one month old, as there is a risk of hemolytic anemia in infants less than one month old.
Driving vehicles and using machines:
- Furazolidon Terapia has no influence on the ability to drive vehicles or use machines.
