Grapes. In the early 1990s, researchers were surprised when they noticed that the French, who consumed a fairly high-fat diet, had the lowest incidence of cardiovascular disease in Europe. This phenomenon is known as the "French paradox", and a plausible explanation found was that the French consume resveratrol-rich wine at meals. Extensive scientific research on resveratrol from grapes shows that it supports the health of the cardiovascular system, showing effective antioxidant activity, has a vaso-protective and vasorelaxant effect and contributes to the inhibition of the platelet aggregation process
(coagulation).
Recent scientific studies have shown that olive leaves exhibit important antioxidant effects by reducing the production of free radicals, as well as effects of inhibiting platelet aggregation.
Olive leaf extracts thus have an effect of improving vascular function and increasing the fluidity of blood flow. The results of a recent study demonstrated for olive leaf extract a positive modulating effect on vascular function.
Sulfine was used by the ancients, mentioned by Theophrastus, Hippocrates, Dioscorides and Pliny, who write about its health benefits. in the more recent tradition, sulfine is used due to its venous tonic effect, maintaining the elasticity of the vascular wall and lymphatic drainage, helping to maintain normal blood flow, especially in the lower limbs, and to reduce the sensation of "heavy legs".
The first description of the wild chestnut was made by Matthiolus in 1565. in 1900, de Vevey discusses its effects on the venous system, and Madaus in 1938 describes the beneficial effects at the hemorrhoidal level, at the level of the abdominal veins and the lower limbs.
Today, the use of the chestnut as a venotonic useful for the proper functioning of the venous circulation is already documented. Clinical studies have also reported an effect of increasing venous tone, all of which are useful for maintaining normal blood circulation at the venous level.
Ruscus aculeatus was used in Antiquity as a diuretic to reduce the discomfort caused by the accumulation of fluids in the body; in Europe, it was used mainly for urinary drainage, but recently, vasoconstrictive effects of ruscogenin and neoruscogenin in its composition have been reported, which support its usefulness for maintaining venous tone and good blood circulation at this level.
