The dermal (skin) ointment contains the medicinal povidone iodine, which belongs to medicines for skin disinfection. It has a broad spectrum of antimicrobial effects - it acts against bacteria, viruses, fungi and protozoa.

It is used in adults and children from 2 years of age for burns, cuts and other wounds, trophic ulcers (foreleg ulcers, bedsores), skin infections and non-inflammatory skin diseases (dermatoses).

In children between 1 and 2 years of age, it can be used only if necessary, based on the doctor's assessment.

Dosage

Adults and children from 2 years (children from 1 year on the express recommendation of the doctor).

The ointment is applied once or twice a day. In case of persistent infections or a purpuric wound, the ointment can be applied more often, 4-6 times a day. There should be intervals of at least 4 hours between individual doses. The maximum duration of treatment is 14 days.

If the patient does not feel better in 7 days or if they feel worse, they should consult a doctor.

Mode of use

The ointment is intended for use on the skin. Apply a thin layer to a clean, dry affected area (preferably after normal cleansing). Depending on the extent and severity of the wound, the wound may be covered with a bandage if necessary. If the ointment is not intended for the treatment or treatment of the skin of the hands, it is necessary to wash the hands after each use.

Warning

The use of the drug during pregnancy and lactation should be avoided, unless the potential benefits to the mother outweigh the potential risks to the fetus and newborn or if a safer alternative is not available.

The medicine is contraindicated for children younger than 1 year.

Not recommended for use in children aged 1 to 2 years. If use is necessary, it should only be used to a very limited extent and only based on a strict benefit-risk assessment by a physician.

Special caution is required for regular use in patients with chronic renal failure. Povidone-iodine should not be used together (concomitantly) with alkaline salts, hydrogen peroxide, taurolidine, tannin and with silver and mercury salts (see SPC, sections 4.3 and 4.5).

If skin irritation, contact dermatitis or hypersensitivity occurs, use should be discontinued.

Due to the oxidizing effect of povidone-iodine, various diagnostic agents can give false positive laboratory results (for example, tests with toluidine or guaiac resin for the determination of hemoglobin or glucose in stool or urine).

The drug can reduce the absorption of iodine by the thyroid gland, which can affect various examinations (thyroid scintigraphy, determination of protein-bound iodine [PBI] and radioiodine diagnostics) and can make the planned radioactive iodine treatment of the thyroid gland impossible. A new scintigraphic examination can be performed after at least 4 weeks have passed since the end of drug treatment.

It is necessary to avoid contact of the drug with jewelry, especially with those containing silver.

This medicine may temporarily discolor the skin where it is applied (caused by the coloring of the medicine itself).

It is necessary to avoid contact of the medicine with the eyes.

Store up to 25 °C in the original package in order to protect from light.

Composition

One g of ointment contains 100 mg of povidone iodine, which corresponds to 10 mg of active iodine. The excipients are sodium bicarbonate, macrogol 400, macrogol 1000, macrogol 1500, macrogol 4000 and purified water.
