Xylogel is a medical device in the form of a gentle nasal gel, designed to moisturise, protect and regenerate the nasal mucosa in cases of dryness, irritation or inflammation. Xylogel Hydro has a complex formula containing moisturising and emollient substances, helping to restore the physiological balance of the mucosa and relieve symptoms caused by dry air, pollution, respiratory infections or prolonged use of nasal decongestants.
Forms of release
Xylogel Hydro is available as a gentle gel, without vasoconstrictive active ingredients, formulated exclusively for moisturising the nasal mucosa.
It contains a combination of glycerol, hydroxyethylcellulose, phosphates and purified water, which has a soothing and repairing effect on the epithelium affected by dryness, dry air, pollutants or drug treatments.
Indications for use
Xylogel Hydro is indicated for:
- Moisturising dry nasal mucosa caused by air conditioning, central heating or atmospheric pollution;
- Relieving nasal discomfort in cases of dry infectious rhinitis;
- Protecting the nasal mucosa against irritation caused by medication, cigarette smoke or industrial dust;
- Restoring the mucosa after ENT surgery or prolonged decongestant treatment;
- Removal of nasal crusts and facilitation of the epithelial healing process.
Due to its moisturising properties, the product can also be used as an adjunct in the treatment of chronic rhinitis, sinusitis and post-infectious dryness.
Dosage
The usual recommended dose is 1–2 applications in each nostril, 2–4 times a day, depending on the degree of dryness or irritation.
- Before application, it is recommended to gently clean the nasal mucosa.
- Remove the protective cap and, when using for the first time, press the pump several times until the gel appears.
- Insert the tip of the bottle into the nostril, keeping the bottle upright, then press once to release a uniform dose.
- It is not recommended to blow your nose immediately after application to allow the protective layer to form.
The duration of treatment depends on the severity of the symptoms, but should not exceed 30 consecutive days without a doctor's recommendation.
Contraindications
Xylogel Hydro should not be used in the following cases:
- Hypersensitivity to any of the product's components (especially benzalkonium chloride)
- Active nasal bleeding or recent traumatic injury to the mucosa
- Intolerance to preservatives
Special instructions for use
The product is intended for individual use to avoid bacterial contamination.
Caution is advised in patients with a predisposition to allergies, as benzalkonium chloride may cause mild local irritation.
In case of accidental contact with the eyes, rinse thoroughly with water.
Side effects
Xylo gel Hydro is generally very well tolerated. In isolated cases, the following may occur:
- mild burning sensation or local tingling;
- transient irritation of the mucosa;
- rare allergic skin reactions (erythema, pruritus, congestion).
These manifestations are usually self-limiting and do not require discontinuation of treatment. However, if symptoms persist or intensify, use should be discontinued and a doctor consulted.
Interactions with other medicines and food
No significant interactions between Xylogel and other medicines have been reported. However, in the case of concomitant nasal treatments (vasoconstrictor sprays or corticosteroids), it is recommended that Xylogel Hydro be administered at least 15–20 minutes apart to avoid dilution of the active substances.
Overdose
To date, no cases of overdose or poisoning with Xylogel Hydro have been reported. Using an excessive amount may cause temporary nasal discomfort, without systemic consequences. In such cases, temporary discontinuation of administration is sufficient.
Storage conditions
Store at temperatures between 15°C and 25°C, away from direct light and frost. Store in the original packaging, tightly closed, to prevent contamination. Keep out of the reach of children. The shelf life is 12 weeks after first opening. Do not use after the expiry date indicated on the packaging.
