Description
Lamisil cream, 15 g, Gsk
Indications:
Cream: Fungal skin infections caused by dermatophytes such as Trichophyton (e.g. T. rubrum, T. mentagrophytes, T. verrucosum, T. violaceum), Microsporum canis and Epidermophyton floccosum. Skin infections caused by yeasts, especially of the genus Candida (e.g. Candida albicans). Pityriasis (Tinea) versicolor caused by Pityrosporum orbiculare (also known as Malaessezia furfur).
Composition:
1% cream: terbinafine hydrochloride 10 mg/1 g cream, excipients: sodium hydroxide, benzyl alcohol, sorbitan monostearate, cetyl palmitate, cetyl alcohol, stearyl alcohol, polysorbate 60, isopropyl myristate, demineralized water.
Method of administration:
Lamisil can be applied once or twice a day. Before applying Lamisil, wash and dry the affected areas thoroughly. Apply a thin layer of the cream to the affected skin and surrounding area and rub in gently. In the case of intertriginous infections (submammary, interdigital, intergluteal, inguinal), the treated area can be covered with gauze, especially at night. Average duration of treatment: Tinea corporis, cruris: 1-2 weeks. Tinea pedis: 2-4 weeks.
When applied twice daily, one week of treatment is usually sufficient.
Cutaneous candidiasis: 1-2 weeks.
Pityriasis versicolor: 2 weeks. Disappearance of clinical symptoms usually occurs within a few days. Inconsistent administration or premature discontinuation of treatment creates the risk of recurrence. If there are no signs of improvement after 2 weeks, the diagnosis should be reviewed.
Use of Lamisil in the elderly:
There is no evidence that elderly patients require different doses or are exposed to different side effects than younger patients. When administering tablets to the elderly, the possibility of impaired hepatic or renal function should be considered (see Precautions). Use of Lamisil in children: There is no experience with the oral preparation of Lamisil in children and its administration cannot be recommended. Experience with the topical preparation of Lamisil in children is limited.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to terbinafine or to any of the excipients contained in the cream.
Precautions:
Cream: Lamisil cream is for external use only. Avoid contact with eyes. Keep out of reach of children!
Pregnancy, lactation and fertility:
Animal studies of fetal toxicity and fertility suggest no adverse effects. Because clinical experience in pregnant women is lacking, Lamisil should not be used during pregnancy unless the potential benefits outweigh any potential risks. Terbinafine is excreted in breast milk; therefore, women receiving oral treatment with Lamisil should not breastfeed. If the treatment is topical, it is unlikely that the small amounts absorbed through the skin will affect the infant.
Driving and using machines:
Lamisil cream does not affect the ability to drive and use machines.
