The daily portion of Intesta Tempo ® consists of one sachet containing 2000 mg of microgranulated sodium butyrate (MSB) and triglycerides of vegetable origin, equivalent to 600 mg of sodium butyrate, and one sachet containing 10 g of lactitol.
Lactitol is a sugar compound consisting of galactose and sorbitol that is not digested by the digestive enzymes of the gastrointestinal tract, but is fermented by the intestinal microflora into short-chain fatty acids (SCFA). Lactitol is minimally absorbed in the small intestine, so it reaches the large intestine, where it is broken down by colonic bacteria into short-chain fatty acids, including butyric acid.
Butyrate has a local osmotic effect. It increases the absorption of water in the large intestine, resulting in an increase in the volume of feces and stimulation of intestinal peristalsis.
