Wobenzym

Wobenzym is available in the form of gastro-resistant tablets. Each sachet contains a combination of proteolytic enzymes, such as trypsin, chymotrypsin, bromelain and papain as well as rutozide trihydrate, a flavonoid with beneficial effects on capillary fragility.

These enzymes are intended to fight inflammation and support the body's healing process.

Wobenzym is indicated as an adjuvant treatment for a number of conditions with an inflammatory component. The most common therapeutic indications include:

• Thrombophlebitis and postthrombotic syndrome - This drug helps reduce inflammation and edema caused by thrombosis or postthrombotic complications.
• Inflammatory conditions of the urogenital tract - Wobenzym can be used to reduce inflammation in the urinary tract, which is commonly seen with infections or other conditions.
• Rheumatic diseases - Joint and muscle inflammation can benefit from treatment with Wobenzym, which helps reduce pain and stiffness.
• Traumatic inflammations - Wobenzym can be used after trauma or surgery to support the healing process.
• Post-irradiation inflammation - The effects of irradiation on tissues can be mitigated with this drug, which helps reduce radiation-induced inflammation.

The usual dose of Wobenzym in adults is 2-3 drages 3 times a day, taken with a glass of water about 30 minutes before morning, midday and evening meals.

The maximum recommended dose is 10 tablets 3 times a day.

Although Wobenzym is a well-tolerated medicine, it is not recommended in certain cases. There are no known absolute contraindications to the use of Wobenzym, but caution should be exercised in patients with:

• Congenital or acquired coagulation deficiency, such as hemophilia
• Advanced liver failure
• Severe kidney disease
• Planned surgery
• Tendency to allergic reactions

The tablets should be swallowed whole, without chewing, to prevent premature breakdown in the stomach.

Wobenzym should only be administered during pregnancy or breast-feeding on the advice and under the supervision of a specialist, as there are insufficient data to assess the risks to the fetus or infant.

Wobenzym is usually well tolerated by patients. However, some side effects may occur, which include:

• Feeling of fullness and flatulence
• Occasional nausea
• Changes in stool consistency, color and odor
• Allergic reactions
• Severe anaphylactic reactions - In very rare cases, severe allergic reactions requiring emergency medical intervention may occur.

Wobenzym may interact with certain medicines, especially antibiotics. Co-administration of this medicine with antibiotics may increase the concentration of antibiotics at the site of action.

The combination of Wobenzym with alcohol is not recommended. Alcohol may influence enzyme metabolism and affect the effectiveness of treatment. Alcohol may also have an irritating effect on the digestive system and may contribute to side effects such as gastric discomfort or diarrhea.

If Wobenzym is taken in excess, mild symptoms of diarrhea may occur, which usually subside after discontinuation of the drug.

No special therapeutic measures are necessary in case of overdose.

Wobenzym should be stored at temperatures between 15 and 25°C in the original packaging to protect the product from moisture and light. Keep out of the reach of children. It is important not to use the product after the expiry date indicated on the packaging.
