Protecardin, 75 mg, 40 gastro-resistant tablets ,Biofarm
Description
Protecardin, 75 mg, 40 gastro-resistant tablets, Biofarm
Indications:
Secondary prevention of myocardial infarction;
- reducing the risk of myocardial infarction in patients with angina pectoris or multiple risk factors, such as: hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, smoking, diabetes mellitus and family history;
- for maintaining revascularization after angioplasty and coronary artery bypass grafting (PTCA, CABG);
- secondary prevention of transient ischemic attacks (TIA) and cerebral infarction.
Composition:
One gastro-resistant tablet contains 75 mg of acetylsalicylic acid.
Method of administration:
Adults:
For long-term treatment, the usual dose is 75 mg–150 mg (1–2 Protecardin 75 mg gastro-resistant tablets), once a day.
In short-term treatment, on the recommendation of the attending physician, in acute coronary syndrome or ischemic stroke, the administration of higher doses, up to 300 mg of acetylsalicylic acid, may be appropriate.
Afterwards, treatment will continue with the recommended dose for long-term treatment.
Children and adolescents:
Protecardin 75 mg is not administered to children and adolescents.
Gastro-resistant tablets should be swallowed whole, with sufficient liquid, preferably after a meal.
The tablets should not be divided, crushed or chewed.
Duration of treatment
The drug is intended for long-term treatment, with the minimum effective dose.
Precautions:
Acetylsalicylic acid should not be administered to children and adolescents due to the risk of Reye's syndrome (manifested by: persistent vomiting, dehydration, impaired consciousness and seizures, which require intensive therapy).
Concomitant administration of other salicylates or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs should be avoided. Acetylsalicylic acid may occasionally cause gastrointestinal bleeding.
Patients with high blood pressure will be carefully monitored.
Acetylsalicylic acid may be administered in the following cases, only after careful assessment of the potential risk/therapeutic benefit ratio:
- in patients with allergic conditions; in case of bronchial asthma and other chronic obstructive bronchopneumopathy, pollen allergy, allergic rhinitis, nasal polyps, allergic reactions to other drugs or food allergies, treatment is done under medical supervision, as they may react to nonsteroidal analgesics with asthma attacks, localized inflammation of the skin or mucous membranes (Quincke's edema) or urticaria more frequently than other patients.
- history of gastric or duodenal ulcer, including chronic or recurrent ulcer or history of gastrointestinal bleeding; - inflammatory diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, including ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease;
- severe liver or kidney function disorders;
- decompensated heart failure;
- first and second trimester of pregnancy;
- breastfeeding;
- conditions with a tendency to fluid retention;
- blood dyscrasias – increases the risk of bleeding;
- congenital deficiency of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase;
- surgical interventions or other interventions with a high risk of bleeding; it is recommended to discontinue acetylsalicylic acid administration at least 5 days before surgery.
In case of prolonged treatment, monitoring of liver and kidney functions is necessary.
As it contains lactose monohydrate, patients with rare hereditary problems of galactose intolerance, the Lapp lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption should not take this medicine.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to acetylsalicylic acid, other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, other salicylates or any of the excipients;
Active gastric or duodenal ulcer;
Hemorrhagic diathesis, thrombocytopenia, hemophilia; History of bronchial asthma induced by the administration of salicylates or substances with similar action, especially nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs;
Phenylketonuria;
Concomitant administration with methotrexate in doses ≥ 15 mg/week;
The last trimester of pregnancy.
