Mentolin

Mentolin is available as a mouth spray packaged in a 25 ml bottle, equipped with a mechanical sprayer that allows for even distribution of the solution on the surface of the oral mucosa. This pharmaceutical form ensures rapid and localised action with minimal systemic absorption, giving it a high safety profile. The solution is clear, transparent in colour, with an intense mint smell and taste.

The composition includes purified water, ethyl alcohol, glycerol, macrogol and cetostearyl ether, Menthae piperitae aetheroleum and tincture.

Mentolin aerosol mouth spray is indicated for:

• Refreshing breath and neutralising unpleasant odours caused by smoking, alcohol consumption or strongly flavoured foods;
• Reducing minor local inflammation of the oral mucosa caused by mechanical, thermal or bacterial irritation;
• Preventing and combating halitosis (bad breath);
• Maintaining daily oral hygiene, as an adjunct between brushing;
• Reducing the bacterial load in the oral cavity, helping to prevent gingivitis and stomatitis.

Administration is performed by direct spraying into the oral cavity, by simply pressing the sprayer. The usual recommended dose is 1-2 sprays per use, repeated several times a day, depending on need or preference.

Mentolin can be used at any time during the day, including after meals or after smoking, with no restrictions on the time of administration. The product does not require dilution and does not need to be rinsed with water afterwards. 

The use of Mentolin spray is contraindicated in the following situations:

• Known hypersensitivity to Mentha piperita or any of the excipients (ethyl alcohol, macrogol, cetostearyl ether, etc.);
• Extensive or bleeding lesions of the oral mucosa.

Use should also be avoided in people with bronchospasm or asthma, as menthol vapours can trigger irritative reactions. 

The product is not to be swallowed and is intended exclusively for local application in the oral cavity. It is important that the sprayer does not come into direct contact with the mucosa to prevent contamination of the solution.

Mentolin can be used as part of your daily oral hygiene routine, complementing tooth brushing and flossing. For patients wearing dentures or orthodontic appliances, the product helps maintain a clean environment and reduce minor gum irritation.

Mentolin mouth spray is generally well tolerated, but like any product containing essential oils and alcohol, it may cause minor local reactions such as:

• a slight burning or tingling sensation in the oral mucosa;
• temporary dry mouth;
• allergic reactions (rash, itching, local inflammation) in people sensitive to mint or alcohol.

To date, no significant interactions between Mentolin and other orally administered medicines have been reported. 

It is not recommended to consume food or drink immediately after use.

Overdose with Mentolin is unlikely, given the local mode of administration and low concentrations of active substances. However, accidental ingestion of large amounts of solution may cause gastric irritation, nausea, vomiting or mild drowsiness due to the alcohol content. In such situations, hydration and specialist medical advice are recommended.

Mentolin should be stored at temperatures below 25°C, away from direct sources of heat and light. The product should be kept in its original packaging, with the cap tightly closed, to prevent evaporation of alcohol and essential oils. Keep out of reach of children. The expiry date is printed on the packaging and must be observed to ensure the product's effectiveness.
