Propolis is a beekeeping product of particular importance for the bee colony, but also for human health. It represents a mixture of vegetable resinous substances, vegetable wax and essential oils, with specific aromas that bees collect from the buds, bark and saplings of trees and shrubs, and its main role is to protect the bee colony, contributing in particular to the asepsis of the microclimate from the hive. Worker bees actively participate in the formation of propolis by adding their salivary secretions and wax to the raw resinous material collected.

• The composition of this natural product is complex, being mostly represented by resins, balms, polyphenolic compounds (phenolic acids and flavonoids), volatile (essential) oils, mineral salts, pollen grains, vegetable waxes and beeswax
• The polyphenols in the composition of propolis determine a wide spectrum of biological actions through which they specifically and non-specifically help the human body
