Indications:
Postinor-2 is an emergency contraceptive that can be used within 72 hours (3 days) after unprotected sex or the failure of your contraceptive method.
Postinor-2 contains a synthetic hormonal active substance called levonorgestrel.
It prevents about 84% of possible pregnancies if taken within 72 hours of unprotected sex. It will not prevent pregnancy every time, and it is more effective the sooner it is taken after unprotected sex. It is better to take it within 12 hours than to wait until the third day.
Postinor-2 is thought to work by:
- prevents your ovaries from releasing an egg;
- prevents the fertilization of the already released egg with sperm.
Postinor-2 can only prevent you from getting pregnant if it is taken within 72 hours after unprotected sex.

Contraindications:
Do not use Postinor-2:
- if you are allergic to levonorgestrel or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.

Precautions:
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using Postinor-2.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding:
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
Task:
You should not take this medicine if you are already pregnant.
If you become pregnant even after taking this medicine it is very important to contact your doctor. There is no evidence that Postinor-2 will harm the baby developing in your womb if you use Postinor-2 as prescribed. However, your doctor may want to check whether the pregnancy is ectopic (where the baby is developing somewhere outside the womb). This is especially important if you have severe abdominal pain after taking Postinor-2 or if you have had an ectopic pregnancy, tubal surgery or pelvic inflammatory disease in the past.
Breastfeeding:
Very small amounts of the active substance of this medicine may appear in breast milk. These amounts are not considered to be harmful to the baby, but to be on the safe side you can take the tablet immediately after breastfeeding and then avoid breastfeeding for at least 8 hours after taking the tablet. This way you take the tablet well before your next meal and reduce the amount of active substance that your baby could take in from breast milk.
Fertility:
Postinor-2 increases the possibility of menstrual cycle irregularities which can sometimes cause ovulation to occur earlier or later. These changes may alter the fertile period; however, there are no long-term data on fertility.

Driving and using machines:
No studies on the effects on the ability to drive and use machines have been performed.

Method of administration:
Always use this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
Use in children and adolescents:
This medicine is not recommended for children. If you are under 16 years of age you should see your doctor or family planning clinic for emergency contraception.
Take one tablet as soon as possible (but no later than 72 hours – 3 days) after having unprotected sex. Swallow the tablet whole, with water if necessary. Do not delay taking the first tablet. The tablet works more effectively the sooner you take it after unprotected sex.
It is important to take the second tablet 12 hours (and no later than 16 hours) after the first tablet. This may mean that you need to set your watch to remind you to take the second tablet. If you are not sure about when to take your tablets, ask your pharmacist for advice.

Composition:
- The active substance is levonorgestrel. Each tablet contains 750 micrograms of levonorgestrel.
- The other ingredients are: potato starch, colloidal anhydrous silica, magnesium stearate, talc, corn starch, lactose monohydrate.
